Irish Rural Link (IRL), the national network representing the interest of rural communities, broadly welcomes some of the measures announced in Budget 2024.
The €12 increase in core social welfare rates, which includes increase in the contributory and non-contributory state pension is welcome we know this will not be enough for low-income rural households to meet the continued cost of living challenges. We believe an increase in the fuel allowance and other allowance would better serve those who receive these payments than the lump sum payments announced.
